Simon Says Stamp is also on Instagram! If you would like you can also share your projects there, but don’t forget to use the hashtag #sssmchallenge
This tag started with a simple idea: combining vintage imagery with strong texture while keeping the overall palette soft and cohesive. I wanted the focal point to be the large “123,” not just as a number but as a structural element that could anchor all the layers underneath and around it.
The background is built from multiple layers of paper, collage elements, and texture paste. Rather than covering everything completely, I allowed portions of the underlying layers to remain visible. The crackled texture creates movement across the surface and adds contrast against the smoother paper elements. I always enjoy that balance between rough and delicate surfaces, especially when working with neutral color palettes.
The color scheme stays within warm browns, aged ivory, and muted sepia tones with an hint of lilac. These colors naturally support the vintage paper doll and help everything feel connected. Small splatters and ink details break up the larger areas and prevent the background from feeling too controlled. I prefer when mixed media projects keep a little unpredictability.
For the focal imagery, I chose this paper doll because they immediately create a sense of narrative. Their dark clothing provides visual weight at the bottom of the tag, grounding the composition and balancing the larger number above.
One of my favorite details is the stitched border around the tag. Stitching always adds a handmade quality that cannot really be replicated with a pen or printed line. It introduces texture while subtly framing the entire composition. The loose black fibers at the top and the frayed cheesecloth at the bottom continue that theme, adding softness and movement around the harder shapes.
At the bottom, I added a small sentiment reading “Your potential is limitless.” I wanted the message to remain understated rather than becoming the main focal point. The layered letters behind the sentiment echo the larger numbers above and help tie the entire design together.
What I enjoy most about this piece is the contrast between structure and imperfection. There are strong focal elements, defined layers, and a clear composition, but there are also frayed threads, uneven edges, splatters, and distressed surfaces. Those details are what bring the project to life for me. They remind me that handmade art doesn’t need to be perfect to feel complete. In fact, it’s often those imperfect details that create the most interesting texture and depth.

And that’s all for today, If you have any questions, suggestions or if you want to let me know what you think of this project, leave a message!
Stay happy , stay creative…Till next time!
