Hello Crafters !

This week’s theme over Simon Says Stamp Monday Challange is:

Not a card

As it’s the first Monday of the month we are showcasing a brand/company. This week we are all using some fabulous products from Tim Holtz. You don’t have to use them to join in with the challenge but if you have them we would love to see them used.

For this challange Simon Says Stamp kindly offers a $25 gift voucher to shop over Simon Says Stamp!
Simon Says Stamp is also on Instagram! If you would like you can also share your projects there, but don’t forget to use the hashtag #sssmchallenge

There’s something really satisfying about starting with a simple tag and watching it slowly turn into a layered little story. This piece came together exactly like that, one step at a time, without overthinking, just letting the materials guide me.

I began by building the background with Distress Ink, blending soft blues and touches of neutral tones to create a slightly weathered look. I didn’t aim for perfection here, actually, the more uneven and textured it felt, the better. I added splatters of water and a few darker ink drops to break things up and give that organic, worn effect that I love so much.

Once the base was dry, I brought in a stencil to add some subtle pattern. I kept it quite light because I didn’t want it to overpower the rest, just enough to create interest when you look closely. A bit of white splatter on top helped tie everything together and soften the layers underneath.

For the focal point, I layered ephemera pieces, including a small vintage photo and torn paper elements. I like mixing different shapes and edges:clean cuts with rough tears, because it creates a more natural, less “placed” composition. The butterfly adds a nice visual anchor and gives a sense of movement, while the little stitched and distressed details help everything feel connected.

I finished it off with a simple sentiment: “celebrate your uniqueness.” It felt like the right message for a piece like this, something handmade, imperfect, and full of character. But it is also Tim’s advice : YOU DO YOU that inspired that quote!

This kind of project is a good reminder that you don’t need a complicated plan. Sometimes just playing with inks, layers, and textures is enough to create something meaningful.

And that’s all for today, If you have any questions, suggestions or if you want to let me know what  you think of this project, leave a message!

Stay happy , stay creative…Till next time!

Ciao Zoey
