Today I’m sharing a soft, vintage-inspired art journal spread that came together quite naturally, just by layering and letting things build up over time.
I started with a light background using Distress Paint, keeping the colors muted and slightly washed out. I didn’t overthink it—just added a bit of water here and there to move the paint around and create those soft transitions. Once dry, I brought in a stencil to add some subtle texture, focusing mostly around the edges so the center could stay open for the focal elements.
Next came stamping. I used a mix of background stamps—some script and a few abstract textures—to give the pages that worn, collected feel. I kept the stamping light and imperfect, letting parts fade into the paint instead of standing out too sharply.
For the focal point, I added a small vintage photo and framed it with some messy stitching and fibers. I like how the thread adds a bit of movement without being too heavy. The heart element was painted with Distress Paint and lightly aged to match the rest of the spread.
On the right page, I kept things more open and added a stamped and embossed butterfly. I wanted something delicate to balance the heavier cluster on the left. A few splatters and small stamped details helped tie everything together across both pages.
To finish, I added a couple of small phrases, nothing too bold, just enough to give the spread a quiet message without taking over.
Overall, this one is all about soft layers, texture, and letting the details stay a bit imperfect.

And that’s all for today, If you have any questions, suggestions or if you want to let me know what you think of this project, leave a message!
Stay happy , stay creative…Till next time!
