There’s something magical about creating art that feels like it already lived a life before landing on your desk. For this mixed media tag, I wanted to capture exactly that feeling: layers of memories, worn textures, faded papers, and soft vintage tones brought together with touches of oxidized mint and distressed details.

To bring the surface to life, I worked with soft vintage neutrals and added pops of oxidized mint tones using Distress products. The cool green shades create a beautiful contrast against the warm kraft and sepia colors, making the entire composition feel aged yet vibrant at the same time.

The vintage photograph immediately became the emotional center of the tag. I love incorporating old portraits into my projects because they instantly create connection and curiosity. (Tim Holtz Photobooth for the win!)

To frame the image, I layered distressed papers and rough edges around the photo, then stitched and crumpled elements slightly to enhance the worn aesthetic. Loose threads and imperfect edges help the project feel naturally aged rather than overly polished.

One of my favorite details is the dyed ribbon at the top of the tag. The soft crinkled fabric adds movement and reinforces the vintage mood beautifully.

This tag became one of those projects where every little imperfection added more personality to the final piece. The textures, loose threads, distressed edges, and faded layers all work together to tell a quiet story.

Mixed media projects like this remind me that art doesn’t need to feel perfect to feel beautiful. Sometimes the most meaningful pieces are the ones that look worn, layered, and full of history.

I hope this project inspires you to play with texture, embrace imperfections, and create something that feels uniquely yours.

Stay happy , stay creative…Till next time!

Ciao Zoey
