Today I’m sharing a small mixed media tag project I put together using a vintage-inspired palette and a few of my favourite products.

This is a layered tag made with a soft pink and neutral base, a focal image in sepia tones, floral clusters, and some textured embossing details. I built the whole piece around a very simple idea: keeping the composition busy in texture, but still clean enough for the focal image to stand out.

Tips & tricks from this project:

1. Build layers first, details later
Don’t start with embellishments. Build your base with papers and texture first. Everything else sits better after that.

2. Stick to a controlled colour palette
Even when working with mixed media, I try to stay within 3–4 main tones. Here it was pinks, oranges,  and a hint of brown.

3. Use mummy cloth or fabric scraps
It’s one of the easiest ways to soften a project that feels too “flat” or too harsh.

4. Don’t overthink embellishment placement
I place things, step back, and adjust. If it feels forced, I move it. That usually works better than planning everything in advance.

5. Wax is your finishing touch
A light layer of wax (like the Foundry Wax I used here) helps unify everything and takes away that “too new” look.

Overall, this was a very intuitive build. Nothing too complicated, just layering textures and letting the materials do the work.

Sometimes simple combinations give the strongest results.

And that’s all for today, If you have any questions, suggestions or if you want to let me know what  you think of this project, leave a message!

Stay happy , stay creative…Till next time!

Ciao Zoey
