Lots of Layers Mixed Media Tag

Hello Crafters!

Lots of Layers

This week’s theme is basically a permission to keep adding things until there’s barely any background left. Which is fine by me.

For this mixed media moth tag I built up paper, stamping, crackle, color and ephemera, with a moth sitting right in the middle of all that chaos.

The background started with plenty of overlapping paper layers and Crackle Texture Paste, leaving some areas more exposed and others heavily textured. I used Distress Spray Stain in Crackling Campfire and Uncharted Mariner for the main color contrast, then worked in Pumice Stone and Gathered Twigs Distress Ink to dirty everything up and tie the different pieces together.

A big part of the layering comes from the Stampers Anonymous Eccentric stamp set. Instead of keeping the stamped images only in the background, I turned several of them into small pieces of ephemera and tucked them around the front tag.

The focal moth is from Stampers Anonymous Moth Study, cut with the Simon Says Stamp coordinating dies. The strong image gives the eye somewhere to stop among all the distressed paper, crackle and color.

And because the theme said Lots of Layers, I took that quite literally. I layered few tags making a “tunnel” in the middle so that some areas were covered, partially hidden and then layered again. No point getting emotionally attached to a beautiful background when you know you’re about to bury half of it anyway.

The result is messy, dimensional and packed with small details without losing the moth as the main focal point.

Exactly the kind of layering I like.

That’s it from my desk today!

Stay happy , stay creative…Till next time!
