Another Monday, another Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week’s theme is Thinking of You, and I decided to create a vintage-inspired card packed with layers, texture, and a little contrast.

Nothing too complicated, just plenty of Tim Holtz ephemera doing what it does best: making a beautiful mess of paper layers.

The main idea behind this card was to build a rich, dimensional composition using different pieces of Tim Holtz ephemera.

I love mixing old book illustrations, typography, and botanical elements. The combination of aged papers and different shapes creates plenty of visual interest without needing a busy color palette.

The background has a warm, distressed look, with overlapping papers, visible stitching, and textured white details that break up the vintage tones.

For the focal point, I combined a large cream-colored flower with a striking butterfly. Those bright green and turquoise wings bring an unexpected splash of color to an otherwise neutral composition.

And honestly, that contrast makes all the difference.

I also like how the delicate lace, frayed fabric, and little twine bow soften the heavier paper layers. There is quite a lot going on here, but the different textures keep everything interesting.

The Thinking of You sentiment sits across the lower part of the card on a distressed fabric label, adding another tactile element to the composition.

When working with this many layers, I like to keep a few things in mind:

  • Mix different textures. Paper, fabric, lace, and dimensional elements create much more interest than flat layers alone.

  • Let some edges show. Those little bits of paper peeking out are part of the composition, not something to hide.

  • Use contrast strategically. The colorful butterfly gives the eye somewhere to land among all those neutral tones.

That’s it from my desk today!
