Stencil on Stencil

For this challenge theme, I was so happy to use some of my favorite stencils! I have plenty, but I always end up reaching for the ones with circles.

For my base, I started with the gesso resist technique, then layered a Distress Spray Stain through another favorite stencil — this time a floral one. Finally, I added a layer of Distress Opaque paste for texture.

Looking back, I’d probably skip the spray stain next time — mainly because the design didn’t show up as much as I had imagined. The whole point of layering stencils isn’t necessarily to have every design visible, but in my mind, I was picturing the flowers standing out more.

No mistakes, though — I just went with the flow, adding colors and inks to build up my background. Once I was happy with it, I created my cluster. I kept it really simple since the background was already quite busy: a portrait photo, a few punched circles to echo the stencil shapes, and some sentiment stickers.

If you look closely at the circles, you can actually see the floral stencil pattern — that’s because I didn’t waste the leftover spray ink! I pressed the reversed, inked stencil onto a piece of white paper to soak up all that beautiful color.

And that’s how easy it was to make this tag!

And that’s all for today, If you have any questions, suggestions or if you want to let me know what  you think of this project, leave a message!

Stay happy , stay creative…Till next time!

Ciao Zoey
