I have a weakness for sarcastic sentiments, so when I saw this week’s theme was Puns, I knew exactly where I wanted to go with it!

I created a set of three mixed media ATCs, keeping the backgrounds loose, messy and full of texture. I started with layers of old book pages and tissue, then added Distress Paint for those bold pops of pink and green. Black marks, stamping and a little stitching brought everything together.

And of course, the sentiments had to do the rest of the talking.

I wanted the three ATCs to feel connected without making them identical, so I worked on all three backgrounds at the same time, repeating the same colors and elements in different ways.

I used Distress Paint in Cracked Pistachio together with a brighter pink (Raspberry Glossy Acrylic Medium) , letting the paint stay loose and imperfect rather than trying to control every mark. I added black through the backgrounds to create contrast and bring all those layers together.

Torn book paper, fabric, stitching and botanical elements added even more texture, and once the backgrounds were busy enough, I finished each ATC with a different sarcastic sentiment.

I really love how these three turned out , especially the contrast between the messy, textured backgrounds and those very matter-of-fact sentiments.

Sometimes a little sarcasm is all a project needs. 😉
