Stepping Out of the Comfort Zone

Hello Crafters !

Here we are with a brand new challenge over Simon Says Stamp!

This week’s theme over Simon Says Stamp Monday Challange is:

Add some texture

As it’s the first Monday of the month we are showcasing a brand/company. This week we are all using some fabulous products from AALL & Create. You don’t have to use them to join in with the challenge but if you have them we would love to see them used.

For this challange Simon Says Stamp kindly offers a $25 gift voucher to shop over Simon Says Stamp!
Simon Says Stamp is also on Instagram! If you would like you can also share your projects there, but don’t forget to use the hashtag #sssmchallenge

Today I’m sharing a tag I created using Distress Ink products and various Tim Holtz elements. This was one of those projects where I didn’t start with a fixed idea, I just wanted to play with layers, textures, and a limited color palette.

Tags are one of my favorite formats for experimenting because they’re small, quick, and perfect for trying new combinations without pressure.

I started with a sturdy tag base and applied Distress Spray Stain directly onto the surface, blending earthy tones like brown, green, and yellow. I focused on building darker edges and keeping the center lighter to create contrast.

Once the inks were dry, I added Distress Oxide spray and water splatters. I like letting the inks react naturally with water , it adds movement and breaks up the background without much effort.

To add pattern and interest, I used AALL & Create Heapaza Hexagon stencil , applying texture paste. I never cover the whole background with a stencil; leaving some areas quieter helps everything feel more balanced.

The vintage photo became the focal point of the tag. I stitched it in place for extra texture and a handmade look. Behind and around it, I layered Tim Holtz paper ephemera, keeping everything loose and slightly imperfect.

The flowers were added toward the end. To help them blend into the background, I inked the edges with Distress Ink before gluing them down. This small step really helps all the elements feel like they belong together.

Finally, I added a small sentiment strip and a label to finish the tag.

love how Distress products make it easy to build layers and texture while still keeping everything cohesive.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a look at my project , I hope it inspires you to get a little inky today!

And that’s all for today, If you have any questions, suggestions or if you want to let me know what  you think of this project, leave a message!

Stay happy , stay creative…Till next time!

Ciao Zoey
