I instantly fell in love with this cactus die set—and since I can never keep a real cactus alive, this paper version is the perfect solution! Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to creating your own layered cactus flower:

Step 1: Select your paper.
I used Altenew’s loose paper sheets, but you can choose any cardstock you prefer.

Step 2: Die cut the shapes.
Use the Succulent layering dies to cut out all the pieces needed for your flower.

Step 3: Choose your watercolors.
For this project, I worked with Altenew’s watercolor pads. Their colors are vibrant, rich, and blend beautifully.

Step 4: Add color in layers.
Apply watercolor gradually, building up depth. I chose shades of blue and violet for a bold, unique look.

Step 5: Shape the petals.
Once dry, use a shaping tool (or the back of a brush) to gently curve the petals and add dimension.

Step 6: Add shimmer.
For extra detail, apply shimmer relief paste to the petals for a subtle, eye-catching shine.

Step 7: Assemble the flower.
Layer and adhere the petals together to form the flower.

Step 8: Create your background.
Design a background of your choice and place your finished cactus flower at the center as the focal point.

And that’s all for today, If you have any questions, suggestions or if you want to let me know what  you think of this project, leave a message!

Stay happy , stay creative…Till next time!

Ciao Zoey
