I then covered the front with a paper that had maps on it. I used gel medium to stick it down and pressed well to be sure everything was adhering well. I let it completely dry before starting to rip off pieces of the tag from the corners.
I love the distressed look you get with using cardboard! I used a toothpick to help me out with the grooves of the tag.
Then I took a bit of gesso and thinned it out with a bit of water. I used a flat brush to tone down the background. I didn’t want to cover the entire map, but i wanted to make it really subtle.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”3585″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_circle_2″ onclick=”zoom”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]I took out my favorite distress paint in blue shades, I didn’t think about what I was doing at this point. I only had a tag in front of me and zero idee.
So I just added paint and I tried to create a kinda of hombre effect (that I then changed into a mess LOL). Layers after layers I finally reached the point where I was happy with it, I started having an idea of what to do.
I love boats. You might have noticed because this is probably my 4th project with a boat on it. Anyway… I felt like the two ripped corners were a bit “loud” so i “toned” them down by adding stamps on the opposite corners.
The Tim Holtz stamp press came to the rescue because my Archival Ink is almost over so it does not have lots of ink — never as today I loved a purchase that much!!!
I run over the embossing tool just to be sure that everything was dry – then I added distress crackle paint all over the tag.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”3590″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_circle_2″ onclick=”zoom”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]While I was waiting for the distress crackle paint to dry, I made the little boat. It is really easy, as you can imagine. I just sketched the shape over a piece of paper and then cut it. The piece of wood is a chopstick that was laying over my desk (Sushi addicted over here!) – I cut it to size then sand paper it a bit and used distress paint to color it. When the distress crackle paint was dry — well…dry enough, I am impatient!! I used the heat tool to speed up the process, but you have to be careful because if you stay still over a zone it will make the crackle paint bubble and, that is a no no. I used white acrylic paint and black acrylic paint to highlight the cracks into the background.
I glued the boat with heavy body gel medium and then I added embossing powder and mika flakes to add some interest around the boat.
I made my own sentiment with an aluminium band – I love this quote, I love it so much![/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_pageable][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][eltdf_content_title content_title=”project details”][vc_empty_space][vc_gallery interval=”0″ images=”3584,3585,3586,3587,3588,3589,3590″ img_size=”large”][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]
