Hello Crafters!

Here we are to a brand new challange over Simon Says Stamp!

This week’s theme over Simon Says Stamp Monday Challange is “BE SQUARE” – how I love this challenge theme!!! It was the perfect time to do something i had in mind since a while. I recently started a new art journal, it is smaller than the usual art journal I keep — so i wanted to make some small inserts to put randomly into the art journal. You know when you just need that little inspiration or little kick? These 3×3 cardboard panel will surely help me to stay focus as I choose some of my favorite “messages” to put over them!

I worked on a 9×3 strip of cardboard, well it is not really cardboard, but you know when you buy drawing blocks and at the back there is that cardboard piece that helps the paper to stay still? That one is what I used as base. I worked on the whole panel then cut it into pieces once the background was done. This is really helpful when I want to make series and I really suggest you to try it. Work on the big background, then cut it into pieces. This way the backrgound will always be different yet similar! I covered it with pieces of Vintage paper by Simon Says Stamp, pieces of Tim Holtz Tissue wrap paper and other random bits I had on the desk. I glued them and let it dry, then I covered it with a bit of gesso.

I added a bit of color with distress crayons and set the color with distress collage medium. I set aside to dry completely. I took the Squared stencil by Tim Holtz and added a bit of modeling paste here and there over the panel, I set aside to dry again and then I cut the three 3×3 squares. I added color with distress crayons. I LOVE THEM. I never thought i was going to be addicted to them…now it feels like I am always working with them!

Since I made this “heavy” background I wanted  to keep the decorations to the minimum. Infact I only used a photo from the photobooth collection by Idea-ology and Tim Holtz, a piece of cheesecloth and a stickers always from Tim Holtz.
