Since I never work with acrylics shapes, I didn’t really know if they could handle the heat or not, so instead of googling the hell out of this, I decided I was going to experiment. LOL.
I literally COVERED everything with tons of book pages paper and gel medium and on the top of that I added white gesso, because why not. LOL. I let it dry and that took my almost 5 hours. Once it was dry – and heavy and thick – I was sure that the heat was not going to melt anything. I started by adding color to the light bulb.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”3522″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_circle_2″ onclick=”zoom”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Now, I know that there are so many rust effect kind of paint out there, I am in love with the one from Finnabair and Prima Marketing — I am 100% positive that I have it somewhere but, I still have 80% of my craft supplies in the garage inside plastic bins waiting to unpack. Yes, I am that lazy. It has been almost a year now. Well—in may it will be a year , but you get the point. So I just took out my paint at started rusting my project my self. To give the “grit” look , I used decorative sand. The one that you use to decorate vase, but I’m sure you can use the one that is in your husband garage 😀 I only needed to add the “rust” feel. Anyway, after some play I was able to achieve it – note that I used only ONE dry brush to apply the paint without cleaning it between the colors.
First I did a layer of black, then brown, then orange, then greenish. Then back again black, brown, orange and finally green.
I am sure there is a better technique for that, but this is how I did it.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”3519″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_circle_2″ onclick=”zoom”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]I forgot to mention that I added gears — I die cut them from thin thin paper because i wanted to be able to mold the gear into the light bulb shape, so I needed a thin paper. I was very minimal with the decoration, I used a rope at the end of the light bulb, a paper doll, three roses and cheesecloth. I wanted to put a fake candle inside the light bulb, but once again, I have no idea where I have those. LOL!!!
Maybe if I can find them I will snap another photo and share it on my social media…..speaking of which, are you following me on Instagram? @scrapsaurus[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_pageable][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][eltdf_content_title content_title=”project details”][vc_empty_space][vc_gallery interval=”0″ images=”3519,3520,3521,3522,3523,3524,3525,3526,3527″ img_size=”large”][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]
