Here we are to a brand new challange over Simon Says Stamp!

This week’s theme over Simon Says Stamp Monday Challange is “Halloween” and we are featuring Memory Box products!

Last’s week post gained a lot of interest and I was happy to receive mails from you guys thanking me for the tips – so for this week’s challenge I want to give you some more tips…just in case! Of course keep it in mind that this works for me, it does not mean that it is “the law” , ok?

So, let’s start with saying that Halloween is not my thing. Here in Italy we do not really celebrate it…I mean, nowadays we celebrate it because “we imported” the holiday from the U.S.A. but it is not in our…roots…let’s say that! So this brings me to this week’s topic: “What to do when I know nothing about the theme?”.

Fear not, internet is here for you! Do some research, browse projects to find some inspiration or simply analyze party decorations. Weird? Of course, but stay with me…party decoration are so useful when it comes to color combo, who wants a party that is not color coordinated? No one, we all know that.

For this week I made a tag – and here’s my process..

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”2418″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_circle_2″ onclick=”zoom”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]After a little research, I decided my color combo: Green , Brown with an hint of Orange. Then I gathered a bunch of halloween themed paper and decorations. Tim Holtz here came to the rescue because with his ephemera packs he can litereally save a project! I used Tim Holtz Idea-ology CURIOSITIES Ephemera , I choose a couple of things that went well together and set them aside.
Themed cardstock pack also are really helpful, I used Tim Holtz Idea-ology Paper Stash MATERIALIZE 8 x 8 Cardstock Pack.
I die cut two patterned paper with the Tag die by Sizzix and Tim Holtz and glued the two pieces together.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”2419″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_circle_2″ onclick=”zoom”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]I started decorating the background as always, a bit of gesso and a mixture of colors…. I let it well dry and then I used gauze to mimic spiderwebs.
I used Memory Box TEXTURE DISTRESSED GRID Designer Stencil and Distress Ink Black Soot, to add some interest at the bottom of my tag. I love this Distressed Grid stencil and I think that it works awesome for Halloween themed project![/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”2420″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_circle_2″ onclick=”zoom”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]When I was satisfied with the background it was time to embellish! And here is where you can really go crazy! I distressed the edge of the ephemera I wanted to use and arranged on my table to find the “perfect” way to cluster them. Once I was ok with it I took everything to my sewing machine!
And with no precise way I stitched everything to the tag! It does not matter if you go over the ephemera, as you can see on mine I went straight in the middle of the “poison” label. The images are there to create interest, do not be afraid to ruin them….as long as you do not cover them all, it will be ok![/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]So…to recap….even if you know nothing about a certain holiday or certain theme, you can always do some research beforehand so that you do not feel over helmed with it! If you do not own any embellishment or paper pads that are themed coordinate, you can always use stamps or stickers or even image you find on magazine to decorate a simple plain card-stock. Simon Says Stamp has a HUGE collection of themed products, simply look on the left side of the browser and if you scroll down you will see you are able to search items based on the theme, really helpful and it also saves time!!![/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_gallery interval=”0″ images=”2417,2418,2419,2420,2421,2422″ img_size=”large”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

  2. fabulous and spooky tag Zoey…brings back memories of scooping out a turnip lantern for some scary nightime trick or treating…have a great weekend…hugs kath xxx

  3. We don’t celebrate it widely in the UK either but I do love your Halloween tag, just the right amount of ‘spookiness’ and I love that found relatives image you used, it is perfect for your tag.

  4. Great job as always. I had the same problem with Halloween theme since it’s not my thing either and we so not celebrate it in Poland. Love your tag just because it’s not too spooky 🙂 Great combo of colors. Hugs, Marzena

  5. Cool tag, Zoey! I think you did great with a Halloween theme, so you are a good researcher! Even though Halloween is celebrated in the USA, I did everything I could to make my own children believe we did not do trick or treating…I would let them hand out the treats…of course as they got older, they didn’t believe their mama anymore and went out to make mischief! LOL! So oddly enough, it is not really a fave of mine either! Maura xx

  6. Fabulous tag Zoey 🙂 I love the colours and whole design of this! 🙂

We don’t ‘do’ halloween here either but it is fun to have a go at making something spooky for fun isn’t it 🙂

    luv
