Here we are to a brand new challange over Simon Says Stamp!

This week’s theme over Simon Says Stamp Monday Challange is “SUMMER FUN” – and, as always, I interpreted the theme my own way… I made this art journal page based on a quote from the book Moby Dick by Herman Melville that I LOVE.
Before showing you my page, let me just remind you a beautiful challange that is going on Simon Says stamp……!!

There is something magical about art journaling – it does not require much. You do not need all the fancy stuff to make a page, you do not always have to fill it up with a lot of goodies…sometimes “simple” is the key.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2308″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_circle_2″ onclick=”zoom”][vc_column_text]I started by covering my art journal pages with Tissue Wrap Paper by Tim Holtz. I love this one because there is a map on it, which was perfect for this theme! I adhered the Tissue Wrap Paper to the art journal pages with Distress Collage Medium Matte – it works amazing! Then I used a bit of gesso to slightly tone down the tissue paper. I set aside to dry. I added some texture with modeling paste and a stencil by of course Mr. Tim Holtz.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2306″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_circle_2″ onclick=”zoom”][vc_column_text]When it was dry I used a LOT of different shades of Blue distress paint to create the scene. (Check out the bottom part of this post for the complete list of colors).

It is the sea with a big wave.

When the first coat of paint was dry, I covered it with with a bit of black gesso – yes, it can be scary, but trust me on that. Black adds a lot of depth! I let it dry again. Then I took again a couple of paints and brought back some blueish tone.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2309″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_circle_2″ onclick=”zoom”][vc_column_text]The top part of the page I used Distress Ink Stain and a brush to blend the color. I also used a distress crayon to highlight some part of the sea and sky. I finally added some details with the picket fence distress paint and a bit of some more white gesso.  To resemble the Moby Dick tail I used an embellishment I had on the desk, so i have no clue what brand it is, but it was a gold stem with leaves. I cut out two leaves and made the tail — or at least I tried! LOL!

I printed the quote from the CANON printer and I sticked it to the page with again Distress Collage Medium, this time I used the Vintage one. The Distress Collage Medium Vintage gave to the page a yellow-brownish look and it give to it also a torn look.

The quote is simply amazing , it says “I know not all that may be coming, but be it what it will – I will go to it laughing” (Io non so tutto quello che potrà accadere, ma che sia quel che sarà – gli andrò incontro ridendo).

Moby Dick is a book I love and I remember watching the movie during summer rainstorms…which i love.

I hope this will inspire you to look at our challenge and seek for your own interpretation! It is so much fun!
