Here we are to a brand new challange over Simon Says Stamp!

This week’s theme over Simon Says Stamp Monday Challange is “Let’s take a vacation” – I interpreted this theme as a Vacation you can take from the rest of the world. In my case, this vacation took about a year. And what a year! A full year that I completely dedicated to my self, a year where I took a big long vacation from everything (sometimes in a rude way like “disappearing” from people…that is one of my bad things that i am trying to improve)… so I made this art journal page while I was thinking about that mental break I took…

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”2869″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_circle_2″ onclick=”zoom”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]I took a piece of Tim Holtz paper and with a spatula I added a bit of Gesso. I applied it randomly and I let it dry. I did the same thing with a couple of ephemeras. As the gesso was drying I die cut the beautiful globo dies from a piece of watercolor paper. I stamped over it with a bunch of stamps. I wasn’t going for a precise look, I just used the first stamps I could reach and added texture with archival ink.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”2868″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_circle_2″ onclick=”zoom”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]I glued everything down and then I started adding colors. I used distress paint and a blending tool to apply the color to my background. This process took a couple of hours — yes I know this might be the first time I take so much time to color, but i wanted to have fun and carefully place the colors over my backrgound…weird coming from me I know!! Anyway, once I was satisfied with the backrgound I let it dry.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”2870″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_circle_2″ onclick=”zoom”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]I added some stitches around the art journal page and then across the page. I used a black watercolor pencil to add shadows and a white gel pen to add highlights.
I colored the crinkled ribbon with distress paint and with the heat tool I dried it. I attached it to the tag with tiny staples by Tim Holtz.
To add even more texture and interest to the background I used some rub ons and some white and brown splashes of paint and distress stain.

I want to share with you a quote that I really like : “We will never forget of what has never happened”. I love this quote, even if it might sound sad, but to tell you the truth, I think this is a powerful quote that needs to remind us that we never have to let chances go… 🙂
have a great week everyone![/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_gallery interval=”0″ images=”2860,2861,2862,2863,2864,2865,2866,2867,2868,2869,2870″ img_size=”large”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

  7. Really cool piece, Zoey! Such a rich and deep background – love all the things you incorporated into it like the tag and ribbon. I like your quote – if we don’t do things, we won’t have the memories of them. I bet your life now is richer because of the time you took for yourself! hugs, Maura

I love the stitching across the pages, I can even see a small boat on the bottom of the page made with stitching. And the quote of never forget is trully fantastic. Hugs, Marzena
