Here we are to a brand new challange over Simon Says Stamp!

This week’s theme over Simon Says Stamp Monday Challange is “GO FISH” .
Before talking about my project, I want to tell you a story – one night I was not able to sleep, so I went on Pinterest. I started looking for what I love most, mixed media and canvases. I admit I have spent 4 hours that night browsing the huge amount of artworks out there – then luckily before my ipad died, I stumbled upon an amazing artwork by Malia Landis. I was amazed by that “altered canvas” so I had to look for more information and it turned out that the artwork I felt in love with was not an altered canvas. I was even more amazed when I found out what it was made out of….
Malia’s artwork is this one : Flock  Stoneware, screen print, wire, horse hair, fish hooks.
So when I read the challenge theme for this week, I suddenly remembered that artwork and I wanted to make “my own” interpretation…

[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2323″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_circle_2″ onclick=”zoom”][vc_column_text]I started by using gesso to cover the back side of a small canvas – i let it completely dry and then I used a bunch of Ranger Distress Ink to add a splash of color. I set again aside to dry completely and then I kept adding layers and layers of color.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2322″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_circle_2″ onclick=”zoom”][vc_column_text]While the canvas was drying, I took a piece of cardstock from the Tim Holtz Collection — and I made this little boat using the origami technique. If I had to do it again, I probably wouldn’t have used a cardstock as some folds were hard to press and I almost ripped some sides of the cardstock….

I distressed the edge with distress ink and added some shadows with distress crayons. Then I covered the front side with Distress Collage Medium Crazing. I fussy cut the image of the young screaming lady from an old print I had around my desk and glued it to the boat.
I used eyelets to embellish the boat and to attach the black Prima Flower wire.

I collaged the big fish using the same cardstock from the Tim Hotlz Collection and also using some tissue wrap paper. With distress crayons I added a splash of color.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2321″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_circle_2″ onclick=”zoom”][vc_column_text]I added a bit of splashes of color with distress spray stain and then with the hot glue gun I adhered everything together.
I used some floss to emulate the sky…because yes, that is not a boat that is on the sea, this is a boat but also a hot air balloon and the fish “emulate” the hot air balloon……… not sure if it makes sense? LOL! Of course not, right? 😉

I was also driven by this quote : ONLY DEAD FISH GO WITH THE FLOW  — This was also the message that I kinda got from the artwork by Malia as the top fishes go on one direction and the bottom ones go on the opposite…I do not know if there is a correlation or not, but this is what my heart thought.

I hope you will find your inspiration to think outside the box and play along with us! Can’t wait to see your creations![/vc_column_text][vc_gallery interval=”0″ images=”2321,2322,2323,2324,2325,2326″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]
